BEHIND THE LABEL
The Story of Ethical, Regenerative Farming in the Annapolis Valley
THE BEGINNING OF FUNDY BLUFF FARMS
When Barry and Sarah Brown first dreamed of starting Fundy Bluff Farms, they weren’t following in anyone’s footsteps - they were creating a new path altogether.
There were no family fields to inherit, no barns handed down through generations. Just a leap of faith, a shared purpose, and a desire to live in alignment with their values.
They traded steady paychecks for unpredictable harvests, office walls for open skies, and convenience for conviction. From the start, their goal was bigger than food - it was about reconnecting people, animals, and the land through truly ethical farming in Nova Scotia.

STARTING WITHOUT A LEGACY
Building a farm from scratch meant every acre, fence post, and animal was earned with perseverance and prayer. Without inherited land or equipment, they relied on creativity, off-farm jobs, and the support of their community. It wasn’t easy - but it was honest.
Their mission was clear: to build a regenerative farm that would nourish both land and lives for generations to come.
A farm that proved you don’t need a legacy to leave one.

LEARNING FROM SCRATCH
Like many first-generation farmers, Barry and Sarah learned everything from the ground up.
Books, online courses, and Joel Salatin - “The Lunatic Farmer” himself - became their teachers. Neighbours shared wisdom that can’t be found in manuals. Mistakes became steppingstones, and every challenge was an opportunity to grow deeper roots.
Their faith-driven purpose kept them grounded: serve people, not profit. Heal the land, and it will feed you back.
INNOVATION & REGENERATION
From day one, Fundy Bluff Farms committed to regenerative farming - a holistic way of raising animals and restoring soil health that mimics nature rather than fights it.
No commercial fertilizers. No antibiotics, vaccines, or hormones. Just pasture-raised pork, chicken, and grass-fed beef raised the way nature intended.
Barry and Sarah let “pigs be pigs,” chickens forage freely, and cattle graze and move daily across lush pasture overlooking the Bay of Fundy.
Even modern innovations like agrivoltaics - combining solar energy and grazing - are explored to make the farm more resilient for the future.
Together, they’re proving that small farms can make a big impact - that ethical farming in the Annapolis Valley can regenerate both ecosystems and communities.
MEET THE FARMERS
Barry and Sarah Brown are first-generation farmers with a heart for people and purpose.
Their 30-acre farm sits high on a bluff overlooking the Bay of Fundy - a landscape that mirrors their philosophy: bold, enduring, and full of life.
Their vision extends beyond their own fields. Through Fundy Bluff Farms, they aim to educate, employ, and empower - offering opportunities to those facing challenges. Because for them, community is the harvest that matters most.
"I DON'T NEED TO FEED THE WORLD, JUST MY COMMUNITY."
- JOEL SALATIN, THE LUNATIC FARMER

THE COST OF COMMITMENT
The reality of farming isn’t romantic - it’s hard, relentless, and humbling.
The hours are long, the learning curve steep, and the sacrifices constant. But with every sunrise over the bluff and every healthy animal on pasture, Barry and Sarah are reminded why they chose this life.
Because farming this way isn’t just about food - it’s about integrity, stewardship, and faith. It’s about raising animals and crops in harmony with creation, and providing pasture-raised meat in Nova Scotia that families can truly trust.

LOOKING AHEAD
The story of Fundy Bluff Farms is still being written - one pasture rotation, one sunrise, and one family meal at a time.
Each step forward is rooted in their guiding principles:
As they continue to grow, Barry and Sarah remain steadfast in their mission:
To raise food that heals the land, nourishes families, and restores trust in where our food comes from.
